Recording a Video

How to record a personalized video from your laptop or phone using the Vidgram Chrome extension.

After the extension generates a script for your prospect, it's time to record. You have two options: record on your laptop or record on your phone.

Choose your recording method

When you're ready to record, the extension shows two buttons:

  • Record here -- Uses your laptop webcam. Great for quick recordings from your desk.
  • Record on phone -- Shows a QR code you scan with your phone camera. The video records on your phone and syncs back to the extension automatically. Your phone camera produces better video quality, so this option is highlighted.

Recording on your laptop

  1. Click Record here.
  2. A 3-second countdown starts, then recording begins automatically.
  3. Your script appears in a teleprompter below the camera preview. It auto-scrolls as you read. You can adjust the scroll speed with the + and - buttons, or scroll manually with your mouse wheel.
  4. Use keyboard shortcuts while recording:
    • Space -- Pause or resume recording
    • Esc -- Stop recording
  5. Click Stop Recording when you're done.

The recording moves to the review screen where you can watch it back.

Tips for a good laptop recording

  • Look at the camera, not the script. Glance down at the teleprompter, then look back up.
  • Good lighting matters. Face a window or desk lamp. Avoid having a bright light behind you.
  • Keep it short. Most effective prospecting videos are 30-60 seconds.
  • Use the pause button if you need to collect your thoughts mid-recording. It's better than fumbling through a sentence.

Recording on your phone

  1. Click Record on phone.
  2. A QR code appears on screen. It expires after a set time -- a countdown shows you how long you have.
  3. Open your phone's camera app and point it at the QR code.
  4. Tap the link that appears to start the recording session on your phone.
  5. Record your video on your phone. When you finish, the video uploads and syncs back to the extension.

If the QR code expires before you scan it, click Generate new code to get a fresh one.

Tips for a good phone recording

  • Hold your phone at eye level. Prop it against a book or use a small tripod. Nobody wants to look up your nose.
  • Record in landscape if you plan to send as a hosted link. Portrait works fine for DM attachments.
  • Find a quiet spot. Phone mics pick up background noise more than laptop mics.

Trimming your video

After recording (on either device), you can trim the start and end of your video:

  1. On the review screen, click Trim.
  2. Drag the start and end handles on the timeline to select the section you want to keep.
  3. Click Preview to watch the trimmed segment.
  4. Click Apply to save the trim.

Trimming is useful for cutting out the awkward first second where you're reaching for the record button, or the end where you're looking for the stop button.

The trim button only appears if your recording is at least 2 seconds long.

Retaking your video

Not happy with how it turned out? You have two options:

  • Retake (on the review screen) -- Jumps straight back into recording with no countdown delay, so you can re-record quickly.
  • Re-record (at the bottom of the review screen) -- Takes you back to the recording choice screen so you can switch between laptop and phone.

Don't overthink it. A video that sounds natural and mentions the prospect's name will outperform a polished, generic one every time.
