Sending a Video

Understand the different ways to deliver a video to a prospect and when to use each one.

After you record and review your video, the extension gives you several ways to deliver it. The options you see depend on your connection status with the prospect and whether you're using LinkedIn or Sales Navigator.

Send as Video (DM attachment)

This attaches the video file directly to a LinkedIn DM. The video plays inline in the conversation -- the prospect doesn't need to click a link or leave LinkedIn.

When to use it:

  • You're already connected with the prospect on LinkedIn
  • You want the video to feel casual and personal, like a voice note but better
  • You don't need view tracking or analytics

How it works:

  1. Click Send as Video.
  2. The extension opens the DM composer with your video attached and a pre-written message like: "Hi Sarah, I recorded a quick video for you and the team at Acme -- take a look!"
  3. Review the message, edit it if you want, and hit send.

This uploads your video to a tracked landing page and puts the link into the DM composer. When the prospect clicks the link, they watch your video on a branded page.

When to use it:

  • You want to know when the prospect watches, how much they watch, and what device they're on
  • You're sending through Sales Navigator (InMail doesn't support video file attachments)
  • You want to show a website screenshot behind your video for context

How it works:

  1. Optionally, enter a Background website URL (like the prospect's company website or your product page). A screenshot of that site will appear behind your video on the landing page.
  2. Click Send as Link.
  3. The extension uploads your video and places the hosted URL in the DM composer with a message like: "Hi Sarah, I recorded a short video specifically for you and the team at Acme -- would love to hear your thoughts: [link]"
  4. Review and send.

Download

This saves the video file to your computer. You can then attach it to an email, upload it to another platform, or share it however you like.

When to use it:

  • You want to send the video outside of LinkedIn (e.g., email, Slack, a CRM)
  • You're not connected with the prospect and can't DM them

Click Download and the file saves to your default downloads folder.

Which options appear and when

The buttons you see on the review screen depend on the situation:

ScenarioWhat you'll see
Connected on LinkedInSend as Video (primary), Send as Link, Download
Sales NavigatorSend as Link (primary), Download. Video file attachments aren't supported in Sales Nav InMail.
Not connectedDownload only. You'll see a note that says "Connect with [name] first to send via DM."

Your admin can also set a default send method (Video or Link) that controls which button appears as the primary action. Both options are still available -- the default just changes the button order.

Setting a background website

When sending as a hosted link, you can add a background URL. This puts a screenshot of that website behind your video on the landing page. It adds visual context and makes the video feel more tailored.

The extension suggests the prospect's LinkedIn profile URL as a starting point. You can change it to anything -- their company website, a relevant case study, or your product page.

After you send

Once you send a video:

  • It's logged in your activity feed
  • If the prospect is part of a campaign, the campaign progress updates automatically
  • For hosted links, you'll get view tracking data on your dashboard

File format note

If you recorded on a laptop, the file may be in WebM format. LinkedIn supports WebM, but if you're sharing the video outside LinkedIn, you may want to convert it to MP4 for wider compatibility. The extension shows a note about this when relevant.
